Viking 3-3 Bayern Munich: Kane’s brace not enough, points shared in Norway

Norwegian Eliteserien side, Viking, held Bayern Munich to a 3-3 draw in the League Phase match of the Uefa Champions League 2026/27 on Tuesday 13 October, 2026 at Lyse Arena in Stavanger, Norway.

The scoreline is a huge feat, recorded as one of the biggest outcomes for the Norwegian club after holding Bayern Munich, a six-time Champions League winners, to a draw in a six-goal battle.

The hosts were in front in the first half after netting twice in the 2nd and 38th minutes through Gianni Stensness and Peter Christiansen respectively, but, a brace by England Captain, Harry Kane, brought the Kings of Germany back into the game.

Kane netted the first goal for Bayern Munich in the 54th minute from the spot after Video Assistant Referee (VAR) awarded a penalty to the Bavarians, and, in the 60th minute, midfielder, Joshua Kimmich, supplied the Englishman, who made sure to convert and level for the visitors.

In the 71st minute, Vincent Kompany’s side found the back of the net for the third time to make it 3-2 after Konrad Laimer released for Luis Diaz, who converted.

But, the home side’s determination paid off in the 90th minute when the leveller came through Herman Haugen, who headed home at the back post.

Kane’s brace which dragged Bayern Munich level means he has now netted thirty-six (36) goals in forty (40) Champions League games.

Also, finding the net on Tuesday night means Kane has netted in nine (9) Champions League matches back-to-back, an achievement only clinched by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Post-match reactions

Zlatko Tripic, Captain of Viking, told Norwegian channel Tv2: “”I could have played another 90 minutes. I’m so incredibly proud. I’ve waited 34 years for this.”

He described Bayern Munich as a team with the “best players”. Tripic said, his side displayed an “incredibly solid” performance.

Tripic continued: “We’re playing against some of the best players in the world, yet we still managed to take a 2-0 lead. I think we played an incredibly solid match. We used everything we had.”

Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich head coach, said: “We were dominant, but at the moment it feels like every chance for the opposition leads to a goal.”

The Belgian pro football manager blamed his side for the outcome, saying, it is “our own fault”.

Reacting to the red card (two yellow cards) handed to French winger, Michael Olise, Kompany described it as “dumb”. He said, the France international was “sorry” after being sent off.

Kompany added: “It was our own fault. This red card was super dumb… you can see in (Michael’s) eyes that he’s sorry about it and that he regrets letting the team down.”
