Roma 3-4 Real Madrid: Los Blancos come from behind to win in Rome

It was a jaw-dropping performance from Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid as they charged from the back to emerge victorious by four (4) goals to three (3) in the League Phase match of the Uefa Champions League 2026/27 against AS Roma on Wednesday 14 October, 2026 at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.

Thanks to a late winner from Germany defender, Antonio Rudiger, the Spanish La Liga giants carted home all three (3) points.

In Rome, fans of the Yellow and Reds raised flags celebrating Mourinho, the Club’s former boss; the Portugal pro football manager guided Roma to the Uefa Europa Conference League 2021/22 title, and then went ahead to lead the Italian top flight side to the Uefa Europa League final the next season.

Mourinho’s Los Blancos were two (2) goals trailing their hosts on Wednesday night, but, within seven (7) minutes, the visitors clinched a sensational turnaround and ran home winners; scoring three (3) times within the short period.

Dutch defensive midfielder, Marten De Roon, gave AS Roma the lead in the 20th minute with Matias Soule’s pass, but, five (5) minutes later, Ivorian winger, Yan Diomande, provided for France forward, Kylian Mbappe, who levelled for Madrid.

The goal by Mbappe, former Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) forward, was his 79th in the Champions League, and it came in his 100th appearance in the competition.

But, not long after the break, and inside six (6) minutes, the home side went two (2) goals ahead of the 15-time Champions League winners. Dutch centre-forward, Donyell Malen, netted a brace for the Yellow and Reds in the 51st and 57th minutes.

Real Madrid kept on the fight, however, were unable to find the net, until the 82nd minute when Carlos Espi netted the second, converting an assist from Endrick, to make it 3-2.

Provider Endrick turned goalscorer in the 85th minute when he utilized an assist from Turkish attacking midfielder, Arda Güler, to level for Madrid.

And, in the 90th minute, Güler recorded his second assist of the showdown by providing for defender, Rudiger, who netted the winner for the visitors.

Gian Piero Gasperini, head coach of Roma, made a series of defensive substitutions in a quest to hold on to the lead, but, changes from Mourinho, who moved back to Real Madrid from Benfica for his second spell, flipped the contest.

The outcome means, Real Madrid, who are six (6) points behind arch rivals, Barcelona, in the La Liga 2026/27, have won two (2) out of two (2) of their Champions League games this season, while, AS Roma have one (1) point following a draw and a loss.
