Nigeria have clinched their spot in the quarter finals of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a huge 6-2 triumph over Egypt in the last Group C match at Rabat Olympic Stadium on Wednesday 5 August, 2026.
The Nigerians headed into the contest with the knowledge that, they could not allow themselves suffer another defeat following their shocking loss in the opener against Malawi.
The Super Falcons suffered a 2-3 defeat in the hands of the Malawians, however, made up with a slim victory over Zambia in their second preliminary; the Zambians fell to the 10-time WAFCON Champions by a lone goal.
The response from Nigeria was merciless against the North Africans on Wednesday night as they launched a fierce attack to find the back of the net three (3) times in each half of the showdown.
With the outcome, Nigeria scaled through to the last eight (8) of the tournament alongside Malawi.
Goalscorers for Nigeria: Assist Oshoala in the 21st minute from the penalty spot, Gift Monday (45+1′), Uchenna Kanu (57′), Christy Ucheibe (81′) from.penalty spot, Rasheedat Ajibade (90+1′) from the penalty spot and Joy Omewa Ogochukwu (90+9′).
Goalscorers for Egypt: Brace from N. Ghazy (45+10′) from the penalty spot and 84th minute.
The result means Nigeria responded to all the pressure following the loss against Malawi with beautiful goals in Rabat to restore full confidence as they progress in the tournament.
The Super Falcons are yet to attain their best form in Morocco, where the WAFCON 2026 is being hosted, however, they have managed to survive a difficult Group, as well as, kept their title defence breathing.
Nigeria will slug it out with Cameroon in the quarter finals on Sunday 9 August, 2026 at 18:00 (WAT).
