Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle United: Eze’s early goal enough as Gunners go three points clear atop

Arsenal have now reclaimed the top spot from Manchester City after going three (3) points clear with a very slim lone goal victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League match at Emirates Stadium on Saturday 25 April, 2026.

The only goal of the game was netted by Arsenal through former Crystal Palace attacking midfielder, Eberechi Eze, early, in the 9th minute.

The England international struck from the edge of the box following a short corner routine, however, had to be taken off action after going down off the ball.

Eze was substituted following the withdrawal of Kai Havertz in the first half. The German forward assisted Eze’s goal.

In his reaction to Eze and Havertz injuries, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, said: “They are muscular niggles. We don’t think it’s too much.”

Arsenal had been dragged down to the second spot of standings after Manchester City emerged victorious over Burnley on Wednesday. The Gunners had to work really hard to take back the top spot.

Arsenal’s feeble display paved the way for the Magpies, who are out-of-form, to gain some balance and create chances to level in North London with Yoane Wissa wasting a chance.

After Eze’s goal, the hosts created almost nothing as they grappled to amass any momentum.

Arsenal’s game recorded some improvements after Bukayo Saka was brought on for his first appearance since last month’s Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City.

Saka’s deflected effort went narrowly wide. The England international also released for midfielder, Martin Odegaard, whose effort was stopped by goalkeeper, Nick Pope.
