The Flamingos of Nigeria are finalists of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup after a beautiful 3-1 triumph over Brazil in the semi final match on Wednesday 4 November, 2026 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco.
This is the first time Nigeria is reaching the final of the competition.
Both sides struggled in a first half that recorded no goal with Nigeria forward, Queen Joseph, Mary Dunstan, and Kanyinsola Yusuf, putting Nathy, Brazil goalkeeper, to the test.
Queen Joseph opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 55th minute, and, Awawu Bashiru made it two and three in the 71st and 80th minutes. Bashiru’s goals knocked out any hopes of a comeback from the South Americans and secured Nigeria’s spot in the final of the competition for the first time.
The Brazilians found their consolation very late, in the 89th minute, through Greise Kelly.
Nigeria’s farthest and best previous reach in the competition was the third place in 2022 where the Flamingos carted home Bronze in India.
This outcome means an enormous achievement for the Women’s Youth Football of Nigeria.
