President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his welcome to every investor, as well as, every partner with the plan to “build, invest and grow” with the country for a long term.
This is coming after the President received a presentation from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) with the confirmation that, the reforms of his administration are “restoring” investor confidence to Nigeria.
President Tinubu received the presentation from Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, NGX Chairman, alongside Mr. Temi Popoola, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Office, and other members of the Board and Management when he welcomed them at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Thursday 6 August, 2026.
The President commended Alhaji Kwairanga, Mr. Popoola, the Board and Management for their “stewardship of an institution that has supported Nigerian enterprise and capital formation for over six decades”.
He believes the way a country “earns” the confidence of investors is the same as it “earns” its people’s confidence, saying, that has helped guide the economic reforms of his administration from onset.
Via X, The President listed signs that investor confidence is returning to Nigeria, which include, increase in market capitalization of companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange beyond “₦158 trillion” since he assumed Office in 2023.
And, “foreign portfolio investment has increased almost sevenfold to ₦1.28 trillion.”
President Tinubu said: “A nation earns the confidence of investors the same way it earns the confidence of its own people. It keeps its word. It stays the course, especially when the choices are difficult.
“That has guided our economic reforms from the very beginning. The presentation I received from the NGX today, confirmed that our reforms are restoring that confidence.”
He added: “The market capitalisation of companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange has grown beyond ₦158 trillion since our administration began, while foreign portfolio investment has increased almost sevenfold to ₦1.28 trillion.
“These are signs that confidence in Nigeria is returning because our economy is becoming stronger, more stable and more competitive.”
The President said, with the restoration of investor confidence to Nigeria, a manufacturer in Aba with expansion plans can access Capital “more easily”, and the Nigerian workers in their millions who have their pensions in the Nigerian Capital Market “should benefit from the value created”.
He said: “What matters to me is what this confidence makes possible for ordinary Nigerians.
“A manufacturer in Aba looking to expand should find capital more easily. A young entrepreneur in Kaduna or anywhere else in Nigeria with a bold idea should have a better chance of finding investment at home.
“Millions of Nigerian workers whose pensions are invested in our capital market hold a share of this growth and should benefit from the value being created.
“That is how economic progress becomes personal for every Nigerian.
The President continued: “The world is also paying attention to Nigeria again.
“In the first half of this year, the Nigerian Exchange ranked among the world’s best-performing equity markets. That recognition was earned through discipline, consistency and the resolve to pursue reforms in the long-term interest of our country.
“We welcome every investor and every partner prepared to build, invest and grow with Nigeria for the long term.”
