Peter Obi has come out to encourage the Church to never be weary in confronting “power” with “truth”.
He told the Church, “remain steadfast in speaking truth to power”.
On Thursday, the 2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) made the statement after he joined Governor Seyi Makinde alongside faithful member of the Methodist Church from all over Nigeria and beyond at the opening of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Via X, the former Governor of Anambra State expressed his gratitude to God for the Methodist Church; he posted: “I thank God for His faithfulness to the Methodist Church over the years and reflect on the immense potential Nigeria possesses as a nation”.
He further encouraged the Church to always stand with the suffering masses, as well as, not waiver in advocating for “Justice and good governance”.
The former Labour Party (LP) member thanked the Methodist Church for inviting him to the event and urged for more prayers for Nigeria, and that God would “touch” the hearts of Politicians and leaders for the good of the public.
Obi further wrote: “I encourage the Church and its delegates to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power, standing with the suffering masses, and continuing to advocate for justice, good governance, and a better Nigeria for all, especially in these challenging times.
“The Church remains one of our nation’s strongest voices of hope, conscience, and moral leadership.
“I thank the Methodist Church for its invitation and ask that they continue to remember our nation in their prayers. I urge them always to pray that God Almighty would touch the hearts of politicians and leaders, so that they will always think and use public resources for the public good.”
