Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, has come out to commend the Senate following the passing of the constitutional amendment for the establishment of State Police across Nigeria.
The Governor said, the move is a “bold and necessary response to a long-standing national conversation on how we protect our communities”.
Also, Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reform, saying, it is a “direct result of his visionary leadership and commitment to restructuring our security architecture”.
Via a statement, Sanwo-Olu said, the President “has championed this cause since his days as Governor of Lagos State, knowing that a safer Nigeria requires empowering authorities who actually know their terrain.”
The Governor continued, in Lagos, State Police is really important as the State’s security needs are “constantly evolving. He said, he knows the streets of Lagos, as well as, its neighbourhoods “better than anyone else”.
He said, the Southwestern State now has the “opportunity” to establish a system that is “fully responsive” to the State’s “local realities”.
Sanwo-Olu said: “For us in Lagos, our security needs are unique, dynamic and constantly evolving. We know our streets and our neighborhoods better than anyone else. This progress finally gives us the opportunity to build a system that is fully responsive to our local realities.
“There is still work to be done but this is major progress toward a safer Nigeria.”
