Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has announced, his administration has purchased “31” tractors which have been released to “30” Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the Area Office.
The purchase was made through a phased procurement programmed launched by his administration with the aim to ensure “food security”.
Via X, the Governor said, before he assumed Office, Osun State had “no single functional” tractor which should be of benefit to farmers of the State.
In his announcement titled ‘We are committed to ensuring food security in Osun State’, Governor Adeleke said: “When we assumed office in 2022, there was no single functional tractor owned by the Osun State Government for the benefit of our farmers.
“Our administration therefore launched a phased procurement programme, and we purchased 31 tractors in the first batch, which have been deployed across the 30 Local Government Areas and the Area Office.”
He said, his government has continuously provided “improved” seedling for cash-crop farmers, as well as, cash grants to support famers, adding, the “goal” is to establish a “thriving” agricultural sector, while, making sure food is “available and affordable” for all family in the Southwestern State.
Adeleke believes, agriculture is about “feeding people” and “creating jobs”.
Governor Adeleke said: “We have also continued to provide improved seedlings for cash-crop farmers, feeds for poultry farmers, agricultural inputs and cash grants to support farmers and strengthen their businesses.
“Our goal is to build a thriving agricultural sector where farmers have access to modern equipment, quality inputs, financing and markets, while ensuring that food is available and affordable for every family in Osun.
“To our administration, Agriculture is not only about feeding our people; it is about creating jobs, empowering our young people and building a stronger Osun economy.”
