Trump welcomes King Charles, Queen Camilla to White House for state visit

President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, staged a ceremonial military welcome for King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the White House in Washington DC.

The American President extolled the “special relationship” between the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK), and told the King “we hope it will always remain that way”.

Despite the recent pressure between the US and the UK, Trump, making his speech from the podium on the South Lawn on the second day of the King’s historic state visit, said: “In the centuries since we won our independence, Americans have had no closer friends than the British.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the American Capital on Monday 27 April, 2026 for the commencement of a four-day visit to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The British Embassy Washington posted on X: “President Trump said: “In the centuries since we won our independence, Americans have had no closer friends than the British. We share that same root.

“We speak the same language. We hold the same values, and together our warriors have defended the same extraordinary civilization under twin banners of red, white and blue.””
