Taiwo Oyedele has officially assumed office as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Friday.
Oyedele, who served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, assumed his new office following the handover from Mr Wale Edun.
Via a statement on X, Oyedele said, “Nigeria is at a critical juncture”, adding, after taking crucial steps to stabilise the economy of the country, the next step will be “to consolidate these gains, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure they translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians”.
Oyedele listed his “strategic priorities” that include:
“1. Productivity and growth
2. Fiscal discipline and sustainability
3. Revenue optimisation and fair taxation
4. Stronger government coordination
5. Public Policy Private Partnership (PPPP)”
The Minister said, he is focused on “disciplined implementation” of policy, as well as, “accountability”; he added, he is set to move Nigeria from “reform to result”.
Oyedele said: “Good policy design alone is not enough, success will be defined by execution. We are committed to disciplined implementation, accountability, and measurable results.
“I look forward to working with all Nigerians as we move from reform to result, accelerate growth and build a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy.”
Wale Edun served as Minister of Finance and Economy from 2023 to 2026.
