According to Al Jazeera:
Electoral practice in Nigeria has always been tainted by disruptions by organised political gangs. Reports have emerged from areas including Surulere and Elegushi.
Tamilore, a 24-year old writer, whose last name is withheld for safety, told Al Jazeera that voting was going on peacefully in her centre in Surulere until thugs came in and disrupted the process, throwing bottles and chanting in Yoruba “We are sons of Lagos”.
“I am others panicked and ran for safety,” she said.
More than 400,000 security officials have been deployed by the Nigerian government, this is regarded as the biggest security operation during a presidential election in the history of Nigeria.
Above 93 million people are registered to vote in Nigeria, Africa’s largest democracy.
The President, Vice President, Senate and House of Representatives will be elected today, Saturday 25 February, 2023.
The 2023 Presidential race is viewed as the most unpredictable in recent Nigerian history.
The process of ballot counting and collating is expected to take some days.
