American multinational company, Apple, has overtaken another American multinational company, Nvidia, to become the most valuable company in the world.
This rearranges the top ranks of the heavyweights in tech as investors reevaluate the outlook for Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Apple, known for consumer electronics, software and online services, was last valued at $4.88 trillion as its shares remained secure, while, Nvidia, developer of systems on chips (SoCs), was approximately at $4.86 trillion, after a decline by 3.5%.
The pecking order shift demonstrates that investors are widening their focus above the most apparent beneficiaries of the AI boom, such as Nvidia, which has been atop for close to a year.
Apple is taking the top spot for the first time since April 2025.
Head of investment at BRI Wealth Management, Toni Meadows, said: “Apple was seen as a laggard in the AI race because it wasn’t spending to develop models, but now sentiment has changed.”
Last month, Apple launched a long-delayed overhaul of Siri, staking the upgraded assistant would help reduce the gap with Big Tech rivals and new-age startups in the crucial AI race
Top Heavyweights in Tech
These are the four (4) most valuable companies in the world currently:
- Apple
- Nvidia
- Microsoft
- Alphabet
Nvidia emerged the world’s first company to exceed a market valuation of $5 trillion in October. Being overtaken by Apple des not necessarily indicate a lasting change in the companies’ relative standing.
The company remains a huge beneficiary of investment related to AI, and its graphic processors are powering much of the AI rage.
Meadows added: “Apple is less exposed to capex intensity and better positioned to monetize AI via services, ecosystem lock-in, and hardware upgrades. The re-rating reflects confidence in earnings durability rather than speculative AI upside.”
