Turkey-Syria Earthquake: Death toll surpass 50,000

Almost 240,000 rescue workers continue to work in earthquake-struck provinces in Turkey, however, no survivors have been found recently.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Southern Turkey and Northern Syria on Monday 6 February, 2023.

Number of people confirmed to have died as a result of the unfortunate incident have risen beyond 50,000, this is based on the latest figure from both Turkey and Syria.

Encompassing volunteers, almost 240,000 rescuers have not relented in their efforts to work in the quake-hit provinces in Turkey.

Some regions affected by the earthquake were difficult to access, however, recovery works have not ceased and numbers of casualty keep rising as rescue works continue.

Almost 530,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster area in Turkey alone.

According to the government of Turkey, so far, 173,000 buildings have collapsed or severely damaged.

Also, more than one million people are taking refuge in temporary homes or public facilities.

Over the buildings that collapsed in Turkey due to the earthquake, investigations have been launched against more than 500 people.
