Nigeria has officially changed over from analogue to digital broadcasting with the launch of Digital Switch Over (DSO) platform at the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) Headquarters in Abuja.
This was announced via a statement by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation on Wednesday 17 June, 2026.
The FMINO announced: “Today, Nigeria has officially transitioned from analogue to digital broadcasting with the launch of the Digital Switch Over (DSO) platform at the headquarters of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) in Abuja.”
The DSO will help Nigerians gain access to a content ecosystem that is “richer and more diverse”, the Ministry said.
It will also feature channels designed to “different interests, age groups”, and through the FreeTV app, Nigerians now have access to “57+” channels.
The platform will ensure households enjoy “quality” digital content all over the nation.
According to the Statment: “This means Nigerians will have access to a richer and more diverse content ecosystem, featuring channels tailored to different interests, age groups, and demographics.
“Already, 57+ channels are live and available through the FreeTV app(on Google Play) and the NigSat satellite platform, giving more households access to quality digital television content nationwide.”
