Ssmsung Electronics has cut jobs at its United States (US) display, phone, as well as, other consumer electronics operations.
The move affects workers mainly in New Jersey and Texas, as disclosed by documents and people familiar with the development.
The South Korean multinational manufacturing conglomerate disclosed to Reuters on Sunday via a statement that, more than 700 roles in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey have been affected by plans by Samsung Electronics America (SEA).
The plan is focused on electronics excluding chips to move its headquarters to Texas State.
A large number of workers affected by the decision have been offered relocations, however, others were let to go, it made known without details.
A the Company’s Plano, Texas Office, some workers encompassing staff in its mobile division, have been let go, according to one affected worker, and due to the sensitivity of the matter, some rejected to be identified.
The cuts, though related to the shift in the move of its headquarters, underscore diverging wealth within the Tech giant with its chips division soaring to record profit, but, its consumer electronics units weakening as chip costs balloon.
The decision by the Company to move its SEA Headquarters is happening after SEA workers in New Jersey recently moved to new offices with much razzmatazz less than a year ago.
According to a Press Release by Josh Gottheimer, US Representative, SEA employs about 1,200 workers in New Jersey; Gottheimer was present at the event to mark the launching of the office in September.
The move of SEA’s headquarters “may lead to changes in our workforce structure, such as employees who are unable to relocate, or certain functions that are optimized to ensure our roles align to key business priorities”, Samsung revealed via a statement.
