Donald Trump, President of the United States (US), has announced the decertification of Canada’s Bombardier Global Expresses, as well as, all Aircraft made in Canada.
This is coming as a retaliation from the US President after neighbours, Canada, “wrongfully and illegally refused to certify” America’s Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets.
Trump described Gulfstream, an American Aircraft Company, as the “most technologically advanced airplanes ever made”; he threatened to slam a 50% tariff “on any and all” aircraft sold by Canada into the United States (US) if the “situation is not corrected”.
President Trump posted on Truth Social: “Based on the fact that Canada has wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets, one of the greatest, most technologically advanced airplanes ever made,
“we are hereby decertifying their Bombardier Global Expresses, and all Aircraft made in Canada, until such time as Gulfstream, a Great American Company, is fully certified, as it should have been many years ago.”
Trump also said, through the process of certification, Canada is “effectively prohibiting” the sale of products by Gulfstream in the country.
The US Leader’s anouncement is coming in the midst of wider tensions existing between the neighbouring countries after Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, called on Nations last week to welcome the end of the rules-based world order that Washington has once championed.
President Trump further posted: “Further, Canada is effectively prohibiting the sale of Gulfstream products in Canada through this very same certification process.
“If, for any reason, this situation is not immediately corrected, I am going to charge Canada a 50% Tariff on any and all Aircraft sold into the United States of America.”
Reuters reports:
Data provider Cirium said there were 150 Global Express aircraft in service registered in the U.S., operated by 115 operators and 5,425 total aircraft of various types made in Canada in service registered in the U.S. including narrowbodies, regional jets and helicopters.
“We hope this is quickly resolved to avoid a significant impact to air traffic and the flying public”, Bombardier Inc, a Canadian Aerospace Manufacturer, based in Montreal City, said.
The Company, which produces business jets, made known, it has taken note of the US President’s social media post and said, it was in contact with the government of Canada.
