Ondo State: FG announces support for Deep Sea Port

The Federal Government will soon officially announce the proposed Ondo Sea Port facility as a Deep Sea Port, to disclose commencement of other processes at the facility, said Mu’azu Sambo, Minister of Transportation.

In a statement, Sambo gave the indication via his Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr Eric Ojiekwe, when he welcomed Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo on Wednesday, 

The Minister hailed the moves made so far by the Ondo State government in preparation for the official announcement of the Federal Government as regards the Port.

Sambo, after paying attention to a technical presentation by the Consultants to the Ondo State Government, assured that the Federal Government would make the official announcement on the Ondo Sea Port in accordance to Section 30 of the Ports Act.

Sambo stated, “We want to see this port come to life before the end of this administration; having another deep sea port will do a lot of good to the blue economy policy of the Federal Government.”

The Minister said the development of a Deep Sea Port in Ondo State would be hugely beneficial to Nigeria.

Governor Akeredolu, earlier said, the essence of the visit to the Minister was to familiarize the Ministry of Transportation with the plans of the State in the development of a Deep Sea Port in Ilaje, Ondo, in agreement with the Federal Government’s standards of Public Private Partnership.

Akeredolu mentioned that the Deep Sea Port would bring so many socio-economic benefits to the country, the state alongside the host communities.

He also disclosed that, the Dubai Port and the China Habour are among the numerous international partners that indicated interest in the development of the Port.
