Premier League Outfit, Liverpool FC, have launched the LFC International Academy in Turkiye, bringing its coaching programme to juvenile players in the region for the first time.
The Club made the announcement on its official website some hours after the Reds struggled to clinch a point in the Premier League 2026/27 match against Newcastle United on Sunday 23 August, 2026.
The Reds finished 2-2 against the Magpies. Liverpool trailed at St. James’s Park until the 9th minute of additional time when Dominik Szoboszlai levelled from the penalty spot.
Aspiring footballers will be provided with the chance to build through Liverpool’s coaching methodology by the new Academy. Also, it will help players bolster their “technical, tactical, physical and social skills while learning to play ‘The Liverpool Way’”, the Club said via a statement.
Liverpool Legend and LFC International Academy ambassador, Ian Rush, said: “We’re excited to bring the first LFC International Academy to Turkiye, adding it to our global network. Turkiye has a strong football culture and a real passion for the game.
“Both players and coaches will get the opportunity to develop their abilities on and off the pitch and do so through ‘The Liverpool Way’.”
General Manager of LFC International Academy Turkiye, Selçuk Güler, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for young players across the country to benefit from the coaching philosophy of one of the world’s most iconic football clubs.
“We look forward to building a programme that will have a lasting impact on youth development in Turkiye, both on and off the pitch.”
Following Liverpool’s draw against Newcastle United on Sunday, head coach, Andoni Iraola described the contest as “difficult”, adding, the result was a “reward” for his side for not giving up despite trailing their hosts in London.
In his post-match press conference, Iraola said:
On the outcome…
“Before the game, we wouldn’t have signed this result probably. But it is true that I think it is a reward because I think we’ve never given up, I think we’ve put a lot of pressure against Newcastle and we had to wait until the end.”
On the performance…
“I think it’s difficult because they told me probably the stats are for us in terms of we’ve created more and [had] better chances and this. I think it’s a reward. It’s not a lot, one point, but at least it’s something that is deserved.”
On the goals conceded…
“It’s not a big surprise [when] you face Newcastle, one of the fastest top lines in the league probably in terms of speed I think. There are different reasons why we conceded both goals.
“The first one I think we should just finish the play. Second one, I think we had the numbers to defend it better. It’s not like they caught us by surprise.”
On Isak…
“[He] probably has had a couple of situations to finish inside the box, but probably not the clearest that he wanted or we wanted, but I value that.
“He has continued pushing on in the game, fighting, and I think it’s a good step for Alex for being the first game.”
Next for Liverpool?
Liverpool will play against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League match on Saturday 29 August, 2026 at Anfield at 12:30 (WAT).
The Reds currently sit on the 10th spot of the table with one (1) point after the draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.
