Bayern Munich narrowly overpowered Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to retain the DFL Super Cup on Saturday 22 August, 2026 at Signal Iduna Park, thanks to Michael Olise’s first half stoppage time winner.
The Bavarians qualified for the annual match after winning the Bundesliga 2025/26 and the German Cup 2025/26, with the Black and Yellow qualifying after finishing second in the League last season.
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern won the Cup in 2025 after defeating VfL Stuttgart 2-1 with goals from Harry Kane and Luis Diaz.
The Kings of Germany took the lead against Dortmund in the 28th through German defender, Nathaniel Brown, with an assist from Olise; and in the 1st minute of the first half additional time, the France international found the second.
The Frenchman capitalized on a loss Dortmund pass in the midfield and used his pace to charge into the box to finish with his left foot into the far corner from a tight angle.
Dortmund were able to fight back and pull one back in the 75th minute through former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Fabio Silva; and in the 90th minute, the hosts were reduced to ten (10) men after Ramy Bensebaini was shown a straight red card.
Bensebaini was sent off for a late challenge on Morocco forward Ismael Saibari.
Kane, who could not find the back of the net for Bayern Munich on Saturday, and was awarded the Golden Shoe on Wednesday after emerging the top goalscorer in Europe for the second time in his career, featured upfront for the German top flight Champions.
