Manchester United 0-1 Manchester City: Haaland scores as ten-man Cityzens down Reds at Old Trafford

A goal from Erling Braut Haaland in the second half was enough to hand ten-man Manchester City maximum points in the Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday 13 September, 2026.

English attacking midfielder, Phil Foden, was sent off after bagging a straight red card for kicking off Bruno Fernandes; from there, Michael Carrick’s Reds took control of the Derby, striking the post on both sides of the game.

However, Enzo Maresca’s Cityzens emerged victorious in the clash after Haaland found the net in the 60th minute. The Norway international tapped in Josko Gvardiol’s low, deflected cross at the back post.

The Norwegian had earlier been flagged to be offside, however, after a long check by Video Assistant Referee (VAR), he was adjudged to be on.

The result means Manchester City continues its 100% start to the Premier League 2026/27 under new manager, Maresca. The Blues are now level on points with Arsenal. The Gunners went atop following a 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

The Reds have now dropped points for the third time and lowered in standings after the home defeat on Sunday.

With this result, Manchester City are second on the table with twelve (12) points, same as toppers, Arsenal, while, Manchester United are 13th with four (4) points.

Fifty (50) teams have visited the Theatre of Dreams and received a red card in the Premier League, but, only two (2) ended winners; and the second is Manchester City.

After the showdown, the Premier League posted on X: “Man City are only the second team in 50 matches to go down to 10 men at Old Trafford but win, after Everton in November 2025.”
