President Tinubu commissions EFCC new zonal directorate in Awka

On Friday 2 October, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the new Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Awka, Anambra State.

The President was represented by Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Governors of Anambra and Imo States, Chukwuma Soludo and Hope Uzodimma respectively, were at the commissioning.

The new EFCC Office will serve both Anambra and Imo States.

Soludo, who described the commissioning of the structure as a “historic event”, seized the opportunity to share his “personal testimony” about the Commission.

Governor Soludo announced: “Yesterday in Awka, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, commissioned the new Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to serve Anambra and Imo States.

“He was ably represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON.”

He said: “It was an honour to join my brother Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and other leaders at this historic event, and I used the opportunity to share a personal testimony about the professionalism of the EFCC.”

Soludo said, “few years” after serving as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the EFCC launched an investigation on an “issue” at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, where he served as Chairman.

He said, the Commission invited him to tell his side of the story, and in the end, he received a writing that “formally” informed him that “nothing was found against me”.

The Governor said, his “testimony” proves the “professionalism” of the EFCC.

Governor Soludo narrated: “A few years after I left office as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Commission was investigating an issue at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, where I had served as Chairman of the Board. I was invited to come and explain what I knew about the matter. I honoured the invitation.

“After their investigation, they formally wrote to inform me that nothing was found against me. Years later, when the matter came up again, they once again confirmed in writing that there was no evidence against me at the conclusion of their investigation. I still keep that letter.”

He expressed “deep” appreciation to the Commission for that “sense of professionalism” as he praised the President, saying, the newly commissioned EFCC Office will “strengthen” the battle against corruption in the region.

Governor Soludo said: “I deeply appreciated that sense of professionalism. This personal experience is why I consider the EFCC a very professional institution. I urged them to keep it up.

“We congratulate the EFCC and thank Mr. President for this important investment in strengthening the fight against corruption in our region.”
