Liverpool ‘crumbling this season very painful’ – Salah after defeat to Aston Villa

Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah, has come out to express his sadness following Liverpool’s humiliating 4-2 defeat in the hands of Aston Villa on Friday, and the Club’s woeful campaign run.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who are gearing up for the Uefa Europa League final next week, made light work of the Reds, winning comfortably at Villa Park with Ollie Watkins netting a brace.

The win secured a place for the Villans in the Uefa Champions League 2026/27, while, leaving Arne Slot’s Liverpool still fighting to clinch a ticket to the tournament.

Via X, Salah said, he is proud to have worked hard to help Liverpool get to the top, but, the Reds “crumbling” to Aston Villa was a “very painful'” experience; he added, fans of the Club don’t deserve that.

He said, it would give him joy to see Liverpool return to that “heavy metal attacking team” other teams dreaded, as well as, that team that “wins trophies”.

Salah will officially leave Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. He said, the Reds will always mean a “great deal” to him and his family.

The Egypt national team Captain assured, he will do everything possible to make sure Liverpool qualifies for the UCL 2026/27, saying, it is “bare minimum”.

Salah wrote: “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

“Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.

“Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.

“As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.”
