Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed his disgust after learning of the arrest of Hon. Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, during the Osun State Governorship Election on Saturday 15 August, 2026.
Adeleke, via an official statement signed by his Spox, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday 15 August, 2026, described Bisi’s arrest as “barbaric”, saying, it is a “sheer abuse” of law enforcement with the aim to “intimidate” supporters.
The Governor further described the PDP Chief’s arrest as “vicious attack on free will”.
He said, Hon. Bisi was “whisked away” from his home after casting his vote to a place “yet to be known”, adding, the aim is to prevent people from “monitoring” results at diverse collation centres.
The Statement reads: “The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has frowned at sheer abuse of law enforcement to intimidate supporters, condemning the arrest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Hon. Sunday Bisi, in his home after he had voted as barbaric and a vicious attack on free will.
“Information reaching me indicates that Hon. Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting, and whisked him away to yet to be known location. Up till this moment, no one has been availed the reason for his arrest,
“which indicates that the APC is working in cohort with compromised security agents to keep people away from monitoring results at the various collation centres.”
The Governor described the “latest sweep” on the supporters of Accord Party as the “biggest assault on democracy”.
He said, Hon. Bisi’s arrest is “political” as he called for the immediate release of all “political prisoners” in Osun State.
The Statement further reads: “This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll.
“This is the biggest assault on democracy, and I urge everyone involved in this desperate attempt to upturn the will of our people through the use of state institutions.
“In that regard, I am calling for the immediate release of Hon. Bisi because his arrest is nothing but political and other political prisoners across Osun state. Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force.”
