Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, has said, his government will no longer tolerate the “business model of criminal smuggling gangs”.
The UK PM made known, the focus right now is to “secure our borders.”
Starmer warned, migrants entering the country “via small boat will be detained and returne to France in short order”.
PM Starmer tweeted: “For the very first time, migrants arriving via small boat will be detained and returned to France in short order.
“This Government is breaking the business model of criminal smuggling gangs and securing our borders.”
In his support of PM Starmer, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Lammy, said, the UK has been working “hand-in-hand” with its allies in Europe from the day the Labour government was sworn in.
This agreement between the United Kingdom (UK) and France is coming as both countries engage in the Franco-British Summit.
President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who travelled to the UK alongside his wife, Mrs. Macron, made known, both countries will discuss “major challenges” affecting Europe which include, nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, defence and more.
Lammy quoted PM Starmer’s tweet and commented: “We have been working hand-in-hand with our European allies from day one of this government.
“Today’s agreement with France demonstrates how closer cooperation is leading to new and innovative work with partners to secure our borders and tackle irregular migration.”
