Hugo Ekitike to miss World Cup with Achilles injury

Premier League club, Liverpool FC, has confirmed that, French forward, Hugo Ekitike, has sustained a serious Achilles injury.

Ekitike, former Eintracht Frankfurt forward, sustained the injury during the UCL quarter final second leg match between his side, Liverpool, and French side, Paris Saint-Germaine, on Tuesday.

The France international was not able to help Liverpool overturn a two-goal deficit they suffered against PSG in the first leg of the tie in Paris as Arne Slot’s Reds were booted out of the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 after conceding a 4-0 aggregate loss.

The forward had to be substituted after he slipped during action against the Les Parisiens at Anfield; scans revealed, the former PSG player ruptured his Achilles tendon.

Ekitike will no longer feature for the Reds for the remainder of the season, and, will be sidelined for France at the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted in the United States (US), Canada and Mexico.
