Manchester City 1-0 Coventry City: Haaland’s header gives Maresca’s side slim victory at home, Fernandez makes debut

Manchester City squeezed out a narrow victory over courageous Coventry City in the Premier League 2026/27 game at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 5 September, 2026.

The win means Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City have successfully maintained their perfect start to the new season.

Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland, headed in the ball in the 26th minute to ensure the hosts finished with maximum points. Antoine Semenyo’s cross located the head of the former Borussia Dortmund striker who made sure to break the deadlock with his effort.

Maresca, former Chelsea manager, introduced new names to his squad, with both Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye making their debuts for the Cityzens.

Argentina midfielder, Fernandez, was initially named on the bench, however, the former Chelsea player was introduced into the starting lineup after English defender, Nico O’Reilly was replaced shortly before kick-off due to a back injury.

While Manchester City are celebrating three (3) wins after three (3) encounters and sitting at the zenith of standings with nine (9) points, Coventry City are at the bottom (20th) with zero (0) point after losing all three (3) games.

The defeat on the road is coming after Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues were beaten by Hull City 1-0 and Arsenal 3-0. This means Coventry City are not only in search of their first Premier League 2026/27 point, but also their first goal.

With the goal against Coventry City, Haaland has now reached a whopping “300” Club goals. Via X, the Norway international expressed his gratitude after achieving the feat.
