Donald Trump, President of the United States (US), has announced, he is “lowering” the American flag throughout the country in honour of Dolly Parton.
Dolly Parton, American singer and actress, passed on Tuesday 25 August, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of eighty (80).
Taking to Truth Social, the US President described the passing of the songwriter as “very sad”, and said, it is a “true loss for millions of people”.
Trump announced, the American flag will be lowered for one (1) week starting from Tuesday for Dolly, whom he described as “one of the greatest Country singers”.
Parton climbed from poverty as a child in rural Appalachia in East Tennessee to emerge a Country star in Nashville, with hit songs such as ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘Jolene’, ‘Coat of Many Colors’, and ‘9 to 5’.
In his tribute, President Trump wrote: “Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people.
“There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
No cause was made public for Parton’s death, however, worries as regards her health rose in 2025 after the singer announced cancellation of her concert tour due to what the singer called “health challenges.”
