Bayern Munich, defending champions, were held to a goalless draw by Schalke in the Bundesliga 2026/27 match on Saturday 5 September, 2026 at VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
The result means Bayern Munich have failed to find the back of the net for the first time in fifty-nine (59) competitive games.
Colombian forward, Luis Diaz, almost netted against the newly promoted side, but, lost one-on-one chances on either side of half-time; the former Liverpool player shot the ball wide with just Schalke goalkeeper, Loris Karius, to beat, and another effort chipped over the German goalie cleared well before getting to the goalline.
The Bavarians headed into the clash with very high morale after winning their first two (2) games of the new season comfortably, beating VfB Stuttgart 5-1 in the Bundesliga opener, and Osnabrück 4-1 in the DFB Pokal 2026/27 first round match
Before these two (2) games, Bayern defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the DFL Super Cup in August.
The first half ended with Harry Kane and Michael Olise watching from the bench, but, the England Captain was introduced at the break, however, Vincent Kompany’s side started to dominate after Olise and Jamal Musiala came on with thirty-five (35) minutes left.
German attacking midfielder, Musiala, was introduced for the first time after suffering seizures during two (2) pre-season games.
Despite the pressure, the Bavarians were unable to find their way through the well-organized and solid defence of the hosts as Schalke held on to cart their first point of the season.
The game was Kane’s 96th Bundesliga appearance and needs two (2) more goals to reach 100 in the competition.
