US Winter Storms; Death toll rises to 24

Severe Arctic Freeze which has taken hold of North America has resulted to the loss of at least 24 lives in the United States (US).

Buffalo in upstate New York remains the worst affected area where seven deaths related to weather were recorded and strong winds have hindered successful rescue efforts.
For days the storm has caused widespread devastation with some areas in blackouts. More than 200,000 homes and businesses in the United States (US) remained without power early on Sunday.
The extent to which the conditions of the blizzard reached, has never been experienced before, extending from Canada as far as South as Texas.
The huge snowstorm accompanied by strong winds, and seriously reduces visibility as a result of blowing storm normally happens when there is a drop in atmospheric pressure.
The disaster has gone ahead to interrupt travel across the US.
Many people were prevented from getting to their families for the Christmas celebrations as flights in thousands were cancelled.
“This will go down in history as Buffalo’s most devastating storm,” Kathy Hochul, New York State Governor, a native of Buffalo, said.
