The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in its latest Lassa Fever update, revealed, “Nigeria recorded sustained #LassaFever activity”.
NCDC, National Public Health Institute of Nigeria, reported, “13” new confirmed cases and “2” new deaths in week 24; “22” new confirmed cases and “3” new deaths in week 25; and “31” new confirmed cases and “2” new deaths in week 26.
According to the NCDC: “In Week 24, 25 and 23 of 2026, Nigeria recorded sustained #LassaFever activity, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.In week 24, a Total of 149 new suspected cases were reported, along with 13 new confirmed cases and 2 new confirmed death.
“In week 25, A Total of 150 new suspected cases were reported, along with 22 new confirmed cases and 3 new confirmed death.
“In week 26, A Total of 205 new suspected cases were reported, along with 31 new confirmed cases and 2 new confirmed death. Additionally, 23 states and 111 LGAs were affected.
“These figures highlight the need for continued vigilance, early detection, and strict preventive measures.”
Lassa Fever
Lassa Fever is a viral disease spread by infected rats.
According to CDC:
Lassa fever is a viral illness spread by a rat found in parts of West Africa.
People can get Lassa fever by having contact with infected rats or their saliva, urine or droppings.
Lassa fever can spread between people. Most people with Lassa fever have mild symptoms. Lassa fever can be deadly.
