The Agency with the task of “Promoting safe, regular and dignified migration” added, the reason for their migration is “not out of choice but mere circumstance”.

According to rescue.org:

Before the outbreak of conflict, Sudan was already facing a humanitarian crisis due to extreme weather shocks, social and political unrest, and rising food prices that continue to drive poverty, hunger and displacement.

Conflict between the SAF and RSF erupted on April 15, 2023. While fighting has been chiefly concentrated in the country’s capital, Khartoum, the conflict has impacted other regions of the country. In Darfur, mass killings and displacement have led to reports of ethnic cleansing.

Over 14,000 people have been killed, with about 6.4 million displaced within the country, making it the largest internal displacement crisis globally.

The IOM – UN Migration said: “Imagine having to leave your home and solace behind, not out of choice but mere circumstance.

“The people of #Sudan are moving for survival, for their life. They need us, and they need us NOW.”
