United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said, in Sudan, “the cholera outbreak has been on the rise, exacerbated by flooding and stagnant water”.

The UN humanitarian agency said, “the situation is increasing needs in a country already reeling from multiple crises.”
Sudan is going through a civil war which is between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), under leader Hemedti; the war started in April, 2023.
“More than 491k people in #Sudan have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains”, UNOCHA added.
According to reports.unocha.org, the ‘Situation Report’ reveals:
- An estimated 491,100 people have been affected by heavy rains and flooding in 63 localities across 15 states in Sudan.
- At least 69 people have been killed and another 112 injured by the heavy rains and flooding.
- About 35,520 homes have been destroyed and nearly 45,000 homes have been damaged.
- The cholera outbreak has been on the rise, exacerbated by the flooding and subsequent stagnant flood waters.
