On Saturday 24 October, 2026, Manchester City’s 100% kick off to the Premier League 2026/27 came to an end after Senegalese striker, Nicolas Jackson’s beautiful brace handed Aston Villa a well-deserved 2-1 triumph in the top flight match at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham.
This is coming after the Blues had seven (7) consecutive victories in seven (7) encounters; the visitors carted home their first loss in the hands of an Aston Villa side that have a fine recent record against them.
It was Aston Villa Captain, John McGinn, who provided for the Senegal national team striker to convert very early, in the 6th minute. McGinn capitalized on a weak effort from Marc Guehi, City defender, to supply Jackson who placed the ball past goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, for the opener.
The visitors charged hard for the leveller, but, it was the Villans that were in front by the conclusion of the first forty-five (45) minutes.
However, seven (7) minutes after the break, Manchester City found the leveller after Iliman Ndiaye’s assist was converted by Norway striker, Erling Haaland; the Norwegian goal machine went really high to meet Ndiaye’s cross and head in to restore parity.
City’s celebration only stayed for eight (8) minutes after which Aston Villa struck the net again to reclaim their lead. Jackson was in the right position and was located by a low cross from Ibrahim Mbaye which he netted to make the scoreline 2-1 for his side.
The Cityzens were close to levelling late in the contest as Haaland’s effort was cleared off. The former Borussia Dortmund striker’s header which was heading straight to goal was cleared to safety by Ian Maatsen.
In it post-victory reaction via X, Aston Villa described its win over Manchester City as “huge”.
The outcome means Aston Villa have now recorded their first home League win of the season.
Aston Villa posted: “A HUGE WIN AT VILLA PARK”.
