Manchester City ‘deserved more’ – Maresca

Manchester City head coach, Enzo Maresca, has reacted following his side’s narrow 1-2 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, saying, the Cityzens “deserved more” from the showdown.

The Italian pro football manager watched as his side suffered their first Premier League 2026/27 defeat following an outstanding brace from former Chelsea striker, Nicolas Jackson.

Via X, Maresca, who managed Chelsea from 2024 to 2026, said, City created so many “chances” against their hosts, however, were not “accurate” enough to score goals and clinch maximum points from the clash.

The game had Jackson find the back of the net twice for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, while, Erling Haaland scored for Manchester City.

In his post-defeat reaction, Maresca said: “I think we deserved more from the game for the amount of chances that we created and for the chances we conceded.”

Manchester City will be looking to find their way back to winning ways when they face Brighton next in the top flight match on Wednesday 28 October, 2026 at Etihad Stadium at 20:40 (WAT)

While, Aston Villa will be hoping their winning continues when they lock horns with AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League match at Vitality Stadium on Wednesday 28 October,

Maresca added: “We need to review the game. For sure when you see the amount of time we spent in their box, sometimes you probably need to be a little bit more accurate in the last third and try to score goals.”
