Mainz 05 3-4 Bayern Munich: Bavarians come from three goals down to win on the road

Thanks to a winner from Harry Kane, Bayern Munich staged a jaw-dropping second half comeback to emerge victorious 4-3 in the Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 on Saturday 25 April, 2026 at MEWA Arena.

In the seven-goal thriller, Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians were already three (3) goals behind in the first 45 minutes after the former Burnley manager made a whopping nine (9) changes from the win over Bayer Leverkusen in midweek.

Kompany had guided Bayern Munich to a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Cup 2025/26 semi final to reach the final of the tournament.

The Belgian manager brought on the England Captain and Michael Olise at the interval before Germany midfielder, Jamal Musiala, who also came on in the second half early, and all three (3) helped seal the beautiful fightback.

The hosts went three (3) goals in front through Dominik Kohr, Paul Nebel and Sheraldo Becker in the 15th and 29th minutes, and in the 2nd minute of first half additional time respectively.

It looked like the Bundesliga 2025/26 toppers were on course to their second top flight defeat, but, loaner striker, Nicolas Jackson, opened the comeback in the 53rd minute with an assist from Konrad Laimer.

And, in the 73rd minute, Laimer provided again, this time for Olise, who added the second for the visitors. In the 80th, Musiala found the third, and three (3) minutes later, Kane sealed the win for Bayern.

A cross from Musiala was pushed into Kane’s path by Mainz 05 goalkeeper Daniel Batz, and the Englishman did not hesitate to convert perfectly.

Currently, with this outcome, Bayern Munich remain extremely comfortably positioned at the top spot of the standings with eighty-two (82) points, while, Mainz 05 are 10th with thirty-four (34) points.

Next for Bayern Munich:

Bayern Munich, who discomfited Bayer Leverkusen in the semi finals of the DFB Cup 2025/26, will gear up for the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 semi final first leg against French side, Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG).

Bayern and PSG will lock horns in the UCL last four clash at Parc des Princes in Paris at 20:00 (WAT).

Bayern Munich will face VfB Stuttgart in the final of the DFB Cup 2025/26 at Olympiastadion Berlin on May 23, 2026.
