‘It takes a lot of energy winning the Bundesliga’ – Kompany

Vincent Kompany, head coach of Bayern Munich, has bared his mind on how strenuous it is to win the German top flight, Bundesliga.

The Bavarians, under the guidance of the Belgian manager, have emerged winners of the Bundesliga 2025/26 with five (5) games remaining; it is the 35th time Bayern Munich are winning the League.

Kompany said, “It looks easier than it is, but it takes a lot of energy” to win the Bundesliga.

The former Manchester City defender also talked about the Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Mainz 05 on Saturday 25 April, 2026 at 14:30 (WAT).

Kompany went on to disclose the fitness level of his side ahead of the showdown at MEWA Arena, a multipurpose Stadium in the city of Mainz.

According to Bayern Munich official X account, the former Belgium player made known, he is still hungry for more wins, saying, “We want all three points”.

He said, 18-year old German attacking midfielder, Lennart Karl, will be missing in action when the Bavarians lock horns against Mainz 05 due to hamstring injury.

At his pre-Mainz 05 press conference, Kompany said:

On the game against Mainz 05…

“The Mainz game is not a test run, but a Bundesliga match. We want all three points. There might be changes in terms of squad management. The important thing is that we’re ready to give our best.”

On fitness levels…

“Fitness and injuries are a part of professional football. Lennart Karl has a hamstring injury. He won’t play. Muscular injuries are different than pains.”

On changes against Mainz 05…

“We’re all people. We had a similar situation a few weeks ago with the two Madrid games. They’re so big you can’t not think about them. I’ll never make that claim. But I can be a role model as coach. How do we prepare?

“What do I say? I can make good decisions to an extent, not ignore the big goal but also have no fear bringing fresh players in to push the fight. It’s no different from the whole season. That was the mentality all season. That won’t change now.”

On winning the Bundesliga 2025/26…

“It’s not easy winning the league. If you watched Freiburg against Stuttgart yesterday, you saw the quality of the Bundesliga.

“It looks easier than it is, but it takes a lot of energy, so we can be proud and want to keep doing it.”

With five (5) games left to play, Bayern Munich have amassed seventy-nine (79) points, fifteen (15) points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, while, Mainz 05 are 10th with thirty-four (34) points; all after thirty (30) games.
