The government of Nigeria has unveiled a 10-year Strategic Action Plan (2026-2036) to transform its agricultural sector.
Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s Vice President, said, the youth will lead the innovation and be central to Food Systems transition in the country.
The plan is part of national strategy by Nigeria to put in place the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration adopted by Leaders in Africa to ensure the strengthening of the continent’s food and nutrition security.
Making his speech at the United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Shettima stressed that, it is essential to invest in young people to drive “innovation”, as well as, “resilience” across Food Systems.

“The plan is part of Nigeria’s national strategy to implement the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration (2026–2036), adopted by African Heads of State to strengthen food and nutrition security across the continent.
“Speaking on Tuesday at a high-level dialogue between African youth agri-food entrepreneurs and African leaders during the United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Vice President @KashimSM emphasised the importance of investing in young people to drive innovation and resilience across food systems.
