14-year old Aprizal Mulyadi was at school when the earthquake struck. He said, he was trapped after “the room collapsed and my legs were buried under the rubble”.
Mulyadi confessed he was rescued to safety by his friend, Zulfikar, who later died after himself becoming trapped.
Officials revealed more than 1,000 people sustained various degrees of injury.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), in its latest announcements, on Tuesday, added that 151 people were still missing, 22,000 houses have been destroyed and above 58,000 people have taken shelter in different locations in the area.
The earthquake with a 5.6 magnitude hit a mountainous region on Monday which led to landslides that buried whole villages near Cianjur, a town in West Java.
A National Search and Rescue Agency representative confirmed that many of those who lost their lives are young people.

Henri Alfiandi said, “most of the casualties are children because at 1pm, they were still at school.”
“It all happened so fast”, Aprizal Mulyadi told AFP News Agency. After walls and roofs caved in, victims got trapped or crushed.
