2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has pleaded with Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri communities in Anambra State to end “hostilities” and give peace a chance.
Via X, Obi, who served as Governor of Anambra State from 2007 to 2014, expressed “deep pain” after learning of the hostilities between the “good” people of both communities; he said, this kind of conflict brings “nothing but destruction”.
In his “passionate appeal for peace”, Obi said: “I am deeply pained by the reports of hostilities between the good people of Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State.”
He said, currently, Nigerians are finding it “increasingly” hard to pull through in the country, and having hostilities such as this is synonymous to “adding fuel to the fire”.
Obi said: “Hostilities of the kind we are witnessing between the two communities achieve nothing but destruction. At a time when people are already finding it increasingly difficult to survive, adding the devastation of conflict is like adding fuel to the fire.”
He pleaded with Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri communities to stop the hostilities “immediately and embrace peace”, saying, no matter how high the “grievance”, it is not “worth the loss of lives”.
Obi said: “I appeal to both communities to immediately cease hostilities and embrace peace. No grievance, however serious, is worth the loss of lives, the destruction of homes and livelihoods, or the pain inflicted on families.”
He called on both communities to have a “dialogue” instead of “violence”, and choose “peace over destruction”.
The former African Democratic Congress (ADC) member said: “Let us choose dialogue over violence, reconciliation over revenge, and peace over destruction. There is always a better way to resolve our differences.”
Obi prayed for “wisdom to our leaders” and “peace” to Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri as he assured “Nigeria will be OK”.
