Akwa Ibom State carrier, Ibom Air, has come out to clarify following comments from the public suggesting that the Airline is “preventing” other Airlines from operating from the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.
The Company said, we do not “exercise monopoly” over operations at the Airport.
Ibom Air made its clarification via a statement on Sunday 30 August, 2026.
The Statement reads: “Public commentary suggests that Ibom Air, as the home-based carrier in Uyo, exercises a monopoly over operations at Victor Attah International Airport or prevents other airlines from operating from the airport.
“Ibom Air’s position is clear
“Ibom Air has no authority, mandate or regulatory power to prevent another airline from operating from Uyo, or from any other airport in Nigeria. The decision to authorize, regulate, suspend, or otherwise permit an airline’s operations rests with the appropriate aviation regulatory authorities.
“Under Section 8(3) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is solely responsible for the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria. Therefore, where an airline meets the applicable
“regulatory and operational requirements and receives the necessary approvals, another airline cannot simply be prevented from operating by Ibom Air.”
The Airline made known, it accepts competition, saying, it believes in a “competitive” aviation environment that focuses on brining benefits to passengers.
The Statement reads: “Ibom Air Welcomes Competition
“Ibom Air welcomes competition. On the contrary, we believe a healthy, competitive aviation environment ultimately benefits passengers.”
The Company said, it is “proud” to be the Akwa Ibom State carrier, however, that does not “confer ownership or control of the airport” neither does it hand it the “power” to decide the Airline that operates there.
The Statement further reads: “As the home-based carrier, Ibom Air is proud to operate from Uyo, but being the home-based carrier does not confer ownership or control of the airport, nor does it give Ibom Air the power to determine which other airlines may operate there.”
