The NBA Finals is returning to the Madison Square Garden and President Donald Trump is expected to attend.
According to a report from New York Post, Trump plans to attend Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Fox News reports: “The president has openly praised the Knicks’ playoff run and said he was invited by owner James Dolan to attend a game.”
The game is set to become one of the biggest basketball nights New York City has witnessed in a generation.
According to USA TODAY: “Trump had previously suggested that he would go to one of the games at the Garden during a cabinet meeting at the White House on May 27, saying that Knicks owner Jim Dolan was among those who invited him.”
A Spox of Madison Square Garden told USA TODAY in a Statement that “the President of the United States — no matter who is in office — is always welcome at all our venues.”
The US President (Trump) will emerge the first sitting Leader of the country to attend an NBA Finals game and the first to attend any NBA game since then-President Barack Obama saw the Chicago Bulls defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-95 in 2015.
The game is the first finals appearance for the Knicks since 1999.
Trump has made himself present at major sporting events during his second term as president, with appearances at the Super Bowl, college football national championship game, Ryder Cup, Daytona 500 and numerous UFC events.
