Jose Mourinho has been reappointed as Real Madrid head coach, the Club confirmed via an official statement on its official website on Thursday.
The former Benfica manager, sixty-three (63) years old, reached an agreement with Real Madrid on a three-year deal and will commence managerial duties when the squad return for pre-season training on 13 July.
The Los Blancos have paid Portuguese top flight club, Benfica, £13m (15m euros) in compensation to bring Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabeu, more than a decade since the end of his first spell at the Club.
Earlier in June, Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez, vowed to bring back the Portuguese manager if he won re-election as the Club’s President.
The Club Statement reads: “The Board of Directors of Real Madrid C.F., meeting today, Thursday, June 11, and presided over by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to appoint José Mourinho as the first team’s head coach for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029.
“José Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day preseason begins.”
79-year old Perez, who has held the Office of President of Real Madrid since 2009, defeated challenger and renewable energy magnate Enrique Riquelme in the election by accumulating 65% of the votes.
Mourinho guided Portuguese Club, FC Porto, and Italian Serie A Club, Inter, to Uefa Champions League titles. He rejoins Real Madrid, who remains the Club that have won the competition the most, with fifteen (15) titles.
The Portuguese will be eyeing to win trophies with the Los Blancos after the Club failed to win a prize in the past two (2) seasons.
In January 2026, Real Madrid sacked Xabi Alonso and appointed Alvaro Arbeloa to mange the Club on temporary basis through to the end of the 2025/26 season.
