Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, has revealed, before he assumed office, the State was making “between ₦3 million and ₦4 million” yearly from Olumo Rock.
The Governor said, the poor revenue from Olumo Rock forced him to take the “bold” decision to provisionally shut it down to make way for “comprehensive refurbishment”.
Governor Abiodun said: “When we assumed office, Olumo Rock was generating between ₦3 million and ₦4 million annually. Recognizing its cultural and tourism value, we took the bold decision to temporarily shut it down for comprehensive refurbishment.”
He revealed, following the transformation into a destination for tourists, Olumo Rock now generates “roughly ₦40 million” on a monthly basis.
Abiodun said: “Today, following that restoration, Olumo Rock has been transformed into a leading tourist destination, now generating about ₦10 million weekly, amounting to roughly ₦40 million monthly.”
He described the developments as “remarkable”, and said, his administration is committed to unleashing the “economic potential” of the heritage assets of the Southwestern State, and, placing Ogun as a top spot for “tourism and investment”.
The Governor said: “This remarkable turnaround reflects our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of our heritage assets while positioning Ogun State as a premier destination for tourism and investment.”
