‘No smoke, no loud noise, no fuel smell’ – Lagos State launches ‘Omi Eko’, an electric-powered boat

The government of Lagos State has launched ‘Omi Eko’, an electric-powered boat, which is expected to emit “No smoke, no loud noise, no fuel smell”.

The boat is “powered by clean energy” as it moves parallel with the State’s THEMES Plus agenda.

According to the Lagos State Government: “Lagos is a city that never stops moving, a city where traffic can test the patience of even the calmest soul. Guess what? Something new has started , a quiet change that could shape the future.

“It is called “OMI EKO” a Yoruba phrase that can easily be translated as “the water of Lagos. ” It is an electric-powered boat. No smoke, no loud noise, no fuel smell. Just smooth movement on water, powered by clean energy.

“For years, our boats ran on diesel, polluting the air and water. But OMI EKO is a proof that Lagos can do better with technology while still protecting our transport system.

“”OMI EKO” aligns with the THEMES plus agenda, which connects rail and road projects to build a balanced and efficient transport system.

“Let’s not forget the E1 Lagos GP, the world’s first all-electric boat race. It was history being made right on our lagoon! Fast, futuristic boats from around the world raced on our waters but the real star was Lagos itself.”
