Coventry City FC, under the guidance of Frank Lampard, have returned to the English top tier football, Premier League, after finishing 1-1 in the Championship match against Blackburn Rovers on Friday 17 April, 2026 at Ewood Park.
Bobby Thomas levelled for the Sky Blues in the 84th minute after Blackburn had taken the lead in the 54th minute through Ryoya Morishita.
This is Coventry City’s return to the Premier League after a whopping twenty-five (25) years as they begin their promotion party.
Thomas etched his name in Coventry City’s history as he levelled with a header in front of away fans in Blackburn, Lancashire.
Supporters of the Sky Blues chanted the defender’s name after he restored parity as the club drowned all the way down to League Two, but, former Chelsea manager, Lampard, led them back to the top flight.
For Blackburn Rovers, the outcome pulled them out of the red zone by five (5) points, however, with two (2) more games played than Oxford United, who are third from bottom.

Following the final whistle, former England defensive midfielder, Lampard, went onto the pitch to celebrate, and, the players ran to the away fans, holding promotion flags.
