Boat capsized on reservoir, son found, dad missing

Emergency services have not stopped to search a reservoir for a father after a boat capsized on Thursday afternoon.

With his teenage son, the man was on board the boat at Draycote Water near Rugby when they both went into the water, Warwickshire Police revealed.

The son was immediately rescued and was found not to have sustained any injury, however, the search for the father continues, using various land and water search equipment.

A Spox of the Police revealed, officers were still at the scene on Friday afternoon along with colleagues from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

They said teams were “working tirelessly” and asked that the public stay away from the area so as not to distract searchers. Also, they expressed gratitude to the public for respecting the family’s privacy.

A Draycote Water Spox said it would remain shut on Saturday, having been closed since the incident. This includes the sailing club, fishing club and restaurant.

Draycote Water is a 240-hectare reservoir and country park, taking its water from the River Leam, and then supplies drinking water to Rugby and Coventry.

After finding and pulling the teenage boy from the water, a Spox for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “He was assessed but did not require further treatment and was discharged at the scene.

“Following several hours of further searching alongside police and fire colleagues, no other patients were found, and our resources were scaled back.”
