Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), David Lammy, has sent his congratulatory greetings to Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, following her re-election.
Lammy said, “resetting the UK’s relationship with the EU is one of our top priorities.”
Von Der Leyen won re-election as President of the European Commission on Thursday 18 July, 2024; she will stay for “5 more years”.
According to Lammy: “Congratulations
@vonderleyen.
Resetting the UK’s relationship with the EU is one of our top priorities. There’s much we can do together, and the UK looks forward to working with you as the closest of allies, partners, and neighbours.”
Lammy’s statement was in response to UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer’s congratulatory message to Von Der Leyen.
Starmer, in his message to the EU President, wrote: “Congratulations @vonderleyen on your re-election as President of the
@EU_Commission.
I look forward to working closely with you to reset the relationship between the UK and the European Union.”
