ADC National Convention: ‘The survival of our democracy is at stake’ – David Mark

The National Convention 2026 of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced in Abuja on Tuesday 14 April, 2026.

The Coalition Party said, the “hall is buzzing” as delegates and key stakeholders converge at the Rainbow Event Centre.

Thousands of delegates are expected to take part in the election of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to manage the affairs of the Party for the next four (4) years.

The ADC posted on X: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is in full swing at the national convention! The hall is buzzing with energy, as delegates from across the country and key party stakeholders gather. The ADC is united, determined, and ready to drive real change. Stay tuned for more updates!”

Top personalities present at the event include, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; among others.

David Mark, National Chairman of the ADC, said, the Party will not “surrender” no matter the challenge, adding, the “survival” of Nigeria’s democracy “is at stake”.

As posted on X by the ADC, David Mark said: “We will not surrender, because what is at stake is not just the ADC or the opposition, but the survival of our democracy.

“The ADC cannot be wished away. It belongs to the Nigerian people.”

The Party made known, the voting by candidates from across different States has been concluded “successfully” at the ongoing Convention, describing it as a “smooth, transparent, and orderly democratic process”.

National Secretary of the ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, said, no amount of pressure can “weaken” the Party, adding, the Coalition “cannot be stopped”.

Posted on X by the ADC, Aregbesola said: “No amount of effort to weaken us will work. Just as no one can stop the sun from rising, the ADC cannot be stopped.

“We cannot allow kakistocracy to take root in Nigeria. This administration promised renewed hope four years ago. Three years in, it is still the same promise. Nigerians deserve to see real results. We have a responsibility to ensure accountability.”
