Dembele net brace as PSG win 2-0 to knock Liverpool out of Champions League again

French right winger, Ousmane Dembele, found the back of the net twice as Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) discomfited Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield on Tuesday 14 April, 2026 in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 quarter final second leg.

The outcome means PSG will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the semi finals of the tournament.

The Les Parisiens headed into the showdown with a two-goal advantage from the first leg in Paris, but, were made to hustle really hard in England until Dembele opened the scoring in the 72nd minute with an assist from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The France player scored the first with a left-footed finish; and in the 1st minute of additional time, Bradley Barcola provided for Dembele, Ballon d’Or winner, to sealed the victory for PSG with the second.

Arne Slot’s Reds worked towards recording a huge comeback in the Uefa Champions League history, but, the Premier League reigning Kings were unable to find the back of the net against their French visitors, who are Champions League holders.

This means Liverpool have now suffered their second successive knock out from the Uefa Champions League in the hands of PSG.

After an annoying performance in the French Capital, Slot’s men were much better on home turf, but, all their efforts yielded absolutely nothing.

Luis Enrique’s PSG mounted more pressure against Liverpool in the first half with Reds goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, forced into action to save efforts from Kvaratskhelia and Dembele.

Slot brought on Cody Gakpo and Joe Gomez for Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong respectively, but, the move resulted to no good. The English hosts thought they had won a goal opportunity after a penalty was awarded when Alexis Mac Allister fell down after a challenge by Willian Pacho, but, an intervention from VAR cancelled the decision.

With this result, Liverpool are now left with no chance for a silverware this season, and it remains to be seen whether the Reds will be able to clinch a spot in next season’s Champions League.
